Helping Today
Executive Summary
NEEDS:
Thousands of individuals in Illinois face immense challenges reintegrating into society after serving time. They often struggle with finding stable housing, securing employment, and accessing vital support services. This lack of resources creates a cycle of hardship and prevents them from reaching their full potential.
OUR MISSION:
We are committed to empowering individuals and families in Illinois by providing essential human and social services. Our focus is on those who have faced challenges such as incarceration, homelessness, or economic hardship. We offer a range of programs designed to help people rebuild their lives, find stability, and achieve their goals.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
AFCI serves a diverse population across Illinois, including:
Ex-offenders reintegrating into society
At-risk children, men, women and youth
Homeless individuals and families
Individuals and families facing economic hardship
FINANCIAL PROJECTIONS:
AFCI is committed to responsible financial management. We are actively seeking funding through grants, donations, and fundraising initiatives. Our financial projections demonstrate that with continued support, AFCI can significantly expand our services.
FOUNDING INSPIRATION:
A Fighting Chance of Illinois was born out of a deeply personal and transformative
journey experienced by our founder, Mr. Philip Macklin. Philip is the only person from
Proviso East to earn the titles “Mr. Illinois (Football),” “All American,” “All State,” “Reebok
All American,” and “All Conference.” He participated in numerous radio and television
interviews, reflecting his prominence and success during his high school years. However, Philip’s life took a challenging turn after high school graduation when he no longer had support from positive male role models. Despite his promising start, he experienced a fall from grace. This difficult period was compounded by a lack of support during his transition from school to adulthood.
Philip’s dedication to helping others is evident in his work with the Rapid Response Team, where he responded to fires, fights, car accidents, and shootings. He ensured the safety of all parties involved and provided immediate needs such as shelter, food, clothing, and resources. Additionally, he participated in the TORCH program, which fosters real-life conversations between adults and children about life choices, options, and consequences.
It is easier to build strong children than to repair
broken men."
